Buckets

A month ago I wrote about ordering some buckets for my long-term food storage. I needed a place to put away rice, beans, flour, sugar, etc. I ordered twenty buckets from U.S. Plastic. A good buy, I thought, at about $5.25 per bucket, with lid, delivered. The buckets are far from heavy duty, but will comfortably hold 30+ pounds of supplies (being full) and I can stack the full buckets three deep without any detectable stress. An added bonus is that the lids have a rubber seal. None of the buckets from Wally World or local hardware stores have that seal.

The buckets arrived after about a week in one box via UPS. Could not load them up right away because I had not ordered mylar bags and oxygen absorbers. So I checked around for both and ended up ordering both from USA Emergency Supply. $1.82 each for bucket-sized mylar bags and $18.42 for 100 500cc oxygen absorbers. About $9.00 more for shipping.

I loaded up about six of the buckets a few days ago. Sealed the mylar bags with my "Seal-a-Meal" vacuum sealer, and put the lids on. I found that a little dusting of the inside of the mylar bag with flour helps the vacuum sealer to be able to suck the air out from between the two flat mylar sides of the bag.

All in all, I think I found some good buys which I highly recommend to others for food storage.

Freeze Dried Pork Chops

I'm always looking for good deals on quality food for the stash. Recently I noticed that a few places are selling freeze dried pork chops in #10 cans. These are military surplus and were manufactured in 1991. Prices were from $30.00 a can and up. Various descriptions indicate about 30 pork chops per can.

I found this to be intriguing considering that many Mountain House entrees are at least $30.00 per can and are only partly meat. Also, the most inexpensive sources I have seen for freeze dried meat in #10 cans is around $45.00 per can.

Then I noticed that MREdepot had a sale on Ebay for cases of six cans of freeze dried pork chops. $126.00 per case, shipping included. I found a review at the Whitebread on Patrol blog, which indicated that these 18 year old pork chops are indeed edible, just not very tender. I can deal with that, and the price of $21.00 a can, so I ordered up a case. They arrived Friday in an unopened case and in excellent condition. If MREdepot is correct, these should be good for at least another twelve years.

The pork chops aren't on sale at this time, but the regular price on Ebay from MREdepot is $139.00 per case including domestic shipping, which is still a good deal.

Now, I just need to find government surplus ribeye steaks and chicken breasts.

Retarded Politician of the Week

Lindsey Graham, Republican Senator from South Carolina.

Here is another turd RINO who should be purged before he gets to pull an Arlen Specter on us. Just as we should have tossed Specter onto the ash heap of history thirty years ago, we should have tossed Lindsey Graham some time ago. Now he makes it all too clear that someone with genuine conservative credentials should run against him in the next Republican primary. Since that will be in 2012, I suggest that the good people of South Carolina recall him right now.

From his participation in the "Gang of 14" to his collaboration with McCain and Teddy "Water Hazard" Kennedy on immigration "reform", I have been more than a little irked with Graham over the past few years. His recent decision to vote for the confirmation of racist, anti-gun pig Sonia Sotomayor is over the top. I don't know whether Graham is playing his old, "go along to get along" game with the Democraps, but his decision is a betrayal to conservatives and libertarians everywhere.

I know that there are four other Republican Senators who have announced their support for Sotomayor. Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe are no surprise, they have been RINOs since day one, and I have previously suggested that they are the equivalent of Arlen Specter. Sen. Mel Martinez was also an automatic vote for Sotomayor, a Latino has to stand up for a Latina, even if she is a racist and is not wise. Sen. Richard Lugar is just senile as far as I can figure, or just doesn't have any fight left in him.

Sotomayor has a proven record as a racist, having headed the legal department of a racist organization. She is also anti-gun and anti-self defense, having gone "on the record" to state that she believes that the 2nd Amendment does not apply to the states, citing a nineteenth century Supreme Court decision. That same cited decision was from an era when the 1st Amendment was ruled not to apply to the states, and has been clearly superseded by Supreme Court decisons of the 20th Century. Shows how far Sotomayor will go to cite outdated law to support her liberal agends. And Sotomayor said recently that there is no Constitutional right of self-defense. Like all true-blue liberals, she believes we should just lie down and bleed in the gutter, 'cuz gub'mint knows best.

Back to Lindsey Graham. His decision to vote for confirmation of Sotomayor, the worst kind of liberal, identity politics, reverse-racist pig, is a betrayal of his party and his constituency. Graham states that he "hopes Democrats will offer future conservative nominees and presidents the same deference that he's showing" (from Real Clear Politics). Note to Senator Graham: How many times are you going to bend over and take it before your realize that the Democraps will never play nice with you? Pack up your Barbie doll and go home!

The State of South Carolina deserves better than Lindsey Graham. For now he is just Retarded Politician of the Week.

Stupid Politician Tricks #3

Stupid Liberal Politician Trick: Ignore the facts; the police are always wrong

Harvard Peoples' University Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. was arrested after breaking into his own home last week. From most of the media reports, one would think that Gates was arrested simply because he is black. Actually, he was arrested for disorderly conduct after failing to cooperate with police and exhibiting "loud and tumultuous behavior".

Gates' longtime Comrade, President Barack Hussein Obama, took the usual left-wing wacko view of any incident in which a black man is arrested: The police are wrong. Quote from BHO:

"the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home"

This, after admitting that he did not have all the facts. Like a typical stupid politician, Comrade Obama failed to realize that his position of authority as Messiah of the Great Republic carries some weight in the minds of the simple-minded buffoons who elected him. This was a great disservice to Police Sergeant James Crowley, who appears to have just been doing his job, according to the police report narrative of Officer Carlos Figueroa.

Kudos to Sgt Crowley, who isn't taking such crap from BHO. Fox News story here.

According to liberal politicians, the police are always wrong when a black man is arrested. Another stupid politician trick to gain favor with their favored constituency: the irresponsible, "police are out to get me", crybaby, allegedly discriminated against, whiners.

PETA Suggests Non-Dairy Michael Jackson

I guess PETA does not stand for People Eating Tasty Animals.

PETA is upset because an exhibitor at the Iowa State Fair plans on making a tribute to the late Michael Jackson in the form of a sculpture made out of butter. There's a joke in there, somewhere, I just know it!

PETA has a problem with the pedophile likeness consisting of an animal-based slippery substance, and suggests that the creator use a non-dairy spread instead.

Those insensitive PETAphiles! How many innocent soybeans will meet an untimely demise for this tacky tribute?

Read it here.

Meet the real Walter Cronkite

Maybe that crackpot Dan Rather was an improvement on "Uncle Walter" after all.

I knew that Uncle Walter editorialized on-air against the Vietnam war, which some believe was the point public opinion began turning against our efforts in the war and was the beginning for Democrats in Congress to abandon South Vietnam.

I didn't know that he was an off-the-cliff flaming liberal in favor of strengthening the United Nations into a One World Government and giving up American sovereignty. I'm glad the old bastard retired when he did. In comparison, Dan Rather looks like a right winger.

Story at World Net Daily.

Then there is the invariably-perky-to-the-point-of-nauseating Katie Couric, who compares herself to Uncle Walter (thanks, NewsBusters). At least Cronkite gave an air of respectability to being a left-wing loon.

Eyewitless News

I thought that insider trading was already illegal. Apparently not so for our elected officials.

From the Newsmax story:

A 2004 study by Georgia State University showed that U.S. senators got returns on their investments that were about 25 percent higher than what average Americans earned.
The latest congressional disclosure reports this spring showed that lawmakers, including those sitting on the House and Senate committees overseeing the financial bailout, had substantial holdings in the big banks that received rescue funds.
The bill proposed by Democratic Reps. Louise Slaughter of New York and Brian Baird of Washington would require lawmakers and their staff to disclose within 90 days the purchase or sale of stocks, bonds or commodity futures exceeding $1,000, except for transactions in blind trusts or mutual funds.

This answers the question as to how a politician can be middle-class when elected and retire (or be voted out) a millionaire.

And, it explains why stimulus money has gone to rescue the bankrupt financial behemoths rather than to provide help to ordinary Americans who have been victimized by the financial behemoths.

Quote of the Day

"If every member pledged to not vote for it if they hadn’t read it in its entirety, I think we would have very few votes."

Steny Hoyer, D-Md, Majority Leader, U.S. House of Representatives, responding to whether he would support a pledge committing members of Congress to read the healthcare reform bill before voting on it, and to make the full text of the legislation available to the public online for 72 hours before the vote takes place.

Stupid Politician Tricks #2

The Goracle compares fighting global warming to fighting the Nazis.

WHAT A FRUITCAKE!

Albert Gore, Jr., has-been former Vice President of the U.S. and former Senator from Tennessee, and self-appointed Godfather of the radical, left-wing, tree-hugging, global warming freaks, has compared the battle against climate change to the battle against the Nazis. Gore stated that the danger of climate change is as urgent as was the threat from Nazi Germany in the last century. Fox News story here.

WHAT A LOAD OF CRAP!

First of all, the threat from Nazi Germany was real, and most free nations recognized the danger, even if they could not agree on what to do. As to "climate change" and "global warming", there is no consensus among scientists that any ongoing climate change is anything but the cyclical changes that the Earth goes through. As to global warming, most data show that the Earth is actually cooling and has been for over ten years. The only consensus is among left-wing nut-cases like Al "the Goracle" Gore who want Americans to give up freedoms, pay more taxes, and live in a stone-age environment.

Second, there is a huge irony in Gore's comparison. National Socialism (Nazism) was a left-wing movement in Germany. It was a movement with an inflexible, destructive, and scientifically unsound ideology which it's politicians placed beyond questioning by the public. Openly questioning National Socialist dogma would result in severe punishment and possible death. Global Warming is a left-wing movement in the United States largely pushed by Democrats and other far-left groups. It is a movement with an inflexible, destructive (to the economy and our way of life), and scientifically unsound ideology which it's leaders (such as Al Gore) have placed beyond questioning by the public. Openly questioning the left's global warming dogma results in severe punishment in the form of being publicly ridiculed and labelled the equivalent of a "holocaust denier".

To me, a conservative being called "worse than Hitler" by any leftist is a supreme insult, because it insinuates that the insulted person has a political ideology as far to the left as Barack Obama, Barney Frank, and Sonia Sotomayor.

Equating the current left-wing cause to the left-wing sins of the past century is one doozy of a Stupid Politician Trick.

Retarded Politician of the Week

Barack Hussein Obama, Jr.

Retarded Politician of the Week honors go to Barack Hussein Obama, leader of the New National Socialist Party and President of the Kool-Aid Drinkers. Obama could actually be stupid politician of the millenium, but there is so much material on this guy that he should be up for consideration every week.

Obama, upon visiting the continent where he was born, last week called for the history of slavery in America to be taught "in a meaningful way", presumably adding to the liberal indoctrination already going on. Read the Newsmax story here.

I am not old, but I remember being taught U.S. history in public schools in the 1970's and 1980's, and we were definitely taught as part of that history that Africans were enslaved in Africa by Africans and sold to slave traders who brought said African slaves to the Caribbean, South America, Europe, and North America (including the British Colonies which became the United States). In no way was slavery presented as something to be proud of in our history, but it was not taught with a heaping helping of "white guilt". Of course, most of my childhood was spent in the great state of Alaska, not known to be as liberal or self-loathing as a number of the "lower 48" states.

Leave it to a non-American like Obama to pass judgment on the society I grew up in. I can only surmise that Obama believes that not enough "white guilt" has been included in the teaching of slavery. After all, this is the same clown who said in his 1995 book that, if it came to war between the U.S. and the Muslims, he would side with the Muslims. This is just another attempt to be divisive for political gain, just like the class warfare that the New National Socialists have been playing for decades. Blame a bunch of people who have never owned slaves and whose ancestors likely never owned slaves to curry favor with people who have never been slaves. My thoughts: Grow up and get over it.

It amazes me that anybody at all thinks that Obama has what it takes to lead this country, when the dork can't even produce an actual certified copy of his actual birth certificate.

Happy Independence Day!

We went to the car races at State Line, Idaho last night. They have an Independence Day program every year, with a demolition derby and fireworks show. It was packed. We all had a great time.

A pet peeve that I have been developing for a few years now has been the tendency to reduce the holiday to "July 4th". Even on the state-printed legal forms that I use on a daily basis the holiday is always referred to as "July 4th". I am concerned that people may forget what the holiday really commemorates if it is only thought of as "July 4th", an additional day off to barbecue and watch fireworks. It's not too much trouble to say "Independence Day".

That's all.

Happy Independence Day!

All Barack Channel: Michael Jackson's Death More Important Than Your Life

The All Barack Channel (ABC), hot on the heels of last Wednesday's interruption of mindless programming to air Obamaganda on Uncle Sugar's proposed universal healthcare/national bankruptcy, preempts (cancels) the episode of it's news program 20/20 containing John Stossel's critcal look at government run health care. So we get spoon fed drivel from the Obamination via ABC, but no opposing point of view. I guess the New National Socialists really do believe in the Fairness Doctrine they are trying to foist upon anyone who does not agree with the socialist agenda.

I am a big fan of John Stossel and his insightful, commonsense reporting. I especially admire him for admitting that he was once a liberal and became a libertarian, a true believer in individual freedom and individual accomplishments.

So, the All Barack Channel thought that putting the country and future generations into an economic death spiral was so important that it warranted prime time. Stossel's critical analysis of the same topic, one so important that the nation's future could be negatively affected for generations, was preempted by......

Michael Jackson coverage.

I am disgusted beyond words.

The news story is here.

Quote of the Day

The Bill of Rights should serve as a constant reminder of the deep distrust that our founders had of government. They knew that some government was necessary but they rightfully saw government as the enemy of the people and they sought to limit government and provide us with protections.
